Chester Engineers received the 2007 Employer Recognition Award from the Pittsburgh Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Engineers Club, Downtown Pittsburgh.

It was bestowed in recognition of the level of our participation in the organization.

The company has been involved in the Pittsburgh Section since the group’s founding in 1918.  In fact, company founder J.N. Chester served as its fifth president, guiding its activities and growth from 1922 to 1924.

More recently, Chester Engineers' support has been exhibited in the amount of personal and company time Pittsburgh Section ASCE members Greg Scott, PE. M.ASCE and Jessica Mendish, E.I.T., A.ASCE, have given to the organization.

Greg, a senior project manager, Airside, takes a leading role on the local and regional levels.  Locally, he has organized and led the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Report Card for the past two years and he was co-chair of the ASCE 2007 Engineers Legislative Day in Harrisburg.  Last year, he testified in front of the House Committee on Urban Affairs on the need for funding for municipal sewer system upgrades in Allegheny County.

Regionally, Greg serves as ASCE’s Region 2 Governor, overseeing the group’s programs in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, DC.

Jessica, an assistant project manager, Airside, joins Greg on many of his ASCE projects.  In addition, she was an active member of the reservations committee of last year’s banquet. This year, as a member of the Pittsburgh Section’s Environmental and Water Resources Chapter, she’s helping to coordinate programs for the ASCE meeting taking place in Pittsburgh in the fall.
