Education
Chester is committed to developing young engineering talent by supporting deserving students. With fellowships and scholarships totaling more than $2.5 million, along with support for other programs, we help make the dream of a career in engineering, business and other areas of study a reality for many students who might otherwise not be able to afford a quality education.
At Carnegie Mellon University, the Chester Engineers Scholarship Fund provides assistance to the children of our employees, community college transfer students and minority students with an interest in the field of engineering.
At the University of Pittsburgh, the Robert O. Agbede Student Award and the Faculty Award for Diversity in the School of Engineering provide crucial financial support to gifted African-American engineering students and recognize faculty members who demonstrate outstanding effort in promoting diversity by recruiting and retaining African-American engineering students. In addition, the Chester Engineers Fellowship supports graduate students as they strive to further their studies in the field of Engineering.
As a business partner with Lincoln University in the White House Initiative on Developing Partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-owned Businesses, Chester funds an annual book scholarship for students who display exceptional leadership qualities and skills in government or business.
Mentoring
Working with the U.S. Small Business Administration's Mentor-Protege program, we serve as a mentor to small, disadvantaged and women-owned businesses, assisting them in growing their capabilities and capacities for success.
For Chester Engineers, serving communities means more than offering innovative solutions that allow for the creation of infrastructure, roads and buildings. We also believe in the importance of creating a lasting social and economic foundation for those we serve. That's why Chester invests in the communities where we operate through a variety of activities that bring our social conscience to life and touch the lives of others in many meaningful ways.
Chester Engineers' James Protin, was recognized for his service to the Mon Valley community through his work with the YMCA in the reconstruction project of the roadway leading to the facility. Jim was credited with designing the project and enlisting help with the paving from W.G. Tomko & Sons. The project was undertaken as a community project according to the YMCA Board of Directors' chairman, Ronald Monack. An engraved plaque was presented at a banquet held at Nemacolin Woods where Bob Agbede and Jim Protin attended and received the award. The plaque reads as follows: " Community Support Award Presented to Chester Engineers; In recognition of outstanding service to the Mon Valley YMCA and giving generously of time and energy that will benefit the community"
