Murry S. Gerber, Executive Chairman, EQT Corporation is the First Chester CEO Featured SpeakerOn March 28, 2011, Chester Engineers hosted its first "CEO Leadership Series" at its Corporate World Headquarters located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The first scheduled speaker, Murry S. Gerber, Executive Chairman, EQT shared his vision and thoughts about leadership opportunities. In his comments to the group, Gerber emphasized the importance of developing unique core competencies within a corporation which he feels will ultimately help a company stay competitive in a global economy. Gerber also recommended to the executives that their core competencies should be ones that can't be easily taken away or replicated. On a personal note, Gerber shared his personal triumphs and challenges along his pathway to success; and he attributes hard work, seeing value in the intangibles, focus on core strength and some "luck" as important qualities that helped him achieve his professional goals. As for the future, Gerber plans to begin a cross-country trip in his natural gas-powered Hummer to promote the use of natural gas-powered vehicles. The Natural Gas HummerTrek is a H3T Hummer that is EPA Certified and gives off fewer emissions than a smart car. Mr. Gerber was executive chairman of EQT Corporation from April 2010 through May 2011, chairman and chief executive officer of EQT from May 2000 through April 2010 and chief executive officer and president of EQT from June 1998 through February 2007. During his tenure, EQT transformed itself from a regional gas distribution company into one of the largest and fastest growing independent Exploration and Production companies in the United States. Prior to joining EQT, Mr. Gerber, served as CEO of Coral Energy. He had previously been treasurer of Shell Oil Company and prior to that served in a number of management and technical positions
