On-site support and quality control services for PNC Park Stadium Construction

The Challenge

The Pittsburgh Pirates contracted PSI/ ATS–Chester to provide Testing & Inspection Services as part of their overall quality control program.  The stadium is an open-air baseball park using natural turf with a direct view over centerfield of downtown Pittsburgh.  The stadium is supported by structural steel, reinforced concrete and pre-cast concrete components supported on auger cast piles.

The Interdisciplinary Approach

The project required extensive coordination with the engineering and construction teams for strictest conformance to their quality control programs.

The Sustainable Result

PNC Park is known as one of the best ballparks in the country. It is a classic-style ballpark that embraces progressiveness while saluting the spirit of early ballpark originals.  The ballpark combines the best features of yesterday's ballparks - rhythmic archways, steel truss work and a natural grass playing field - with the latest in fan and player amenities and comfort. The sustainable result is a ballpark constructed to the highest standards that will serve the Pittsburgh Pirates and their fans for many years.
