GIS-Based Asset Management System for Allegheny County

Client:Allegheny County
Location:Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Project Objective

  • A maintenance management system for the county roads, roadside assets (inlets, manholes, storm drains, guiderails, traffic signs, and walls), bridges, parks, and buildings.
  • Four modules: service request (customer call-in), work order management, asset management, and pavement management
  • Software interfaces to other databases (Roadware and JD Edwards accounting system)
  • An application to manage Highway Occupancy Permits
  • GIS mapping
  • Database configuration, installation, and implementation
  • Migration of legacy data
  • Training and mentoring

Solution
Our solution consisted of implementing Azteca Systems' CityWorks software package in conjunction with ESRI's ArcGIS platform to provide a GIS-centric and geodatabase-connected Management Information System. This solution helped DPW replace its existing Stantec-based work order and asset management system due to the lack of developer support and pursue American Public Works Association (APWA) accreditation. Motorola, Inc. served as a sub-consultant to ATS-Chester Engineers.
