Coal Run Drainage Basin Stormwater Drainage Plan

There is a history of periodic flooding problems in the Coal Run drainage basin in the City of Fairmont. In response to this situation, the City of Fairmont retained Chester Engineers to idenfiy improvements to the drainage system in the basin with the goal of mitigating the flooding problems. Chester Engineers developed a SWMM model of the drainage area and used the model to define the causes of the problems and develop and evaluate seven sets of drainage system improvements capable of alleviating flooding created by storms up to and including the 100-year frequency event. Alternative improvements included improved preventative maintenance of structures, upsizing culverts and storm sewers, and the construction of distributed stormwater detention facilities.
